01. About Me

I'm Joe Lagasse, a Senior Firmware Engineer who thrives on unsolved problems. With nearly a decade developing advanced electro-optic systems, headborne platforms, and testing fixtures, I've learned that the best solutions come from looking at challenges from every angle.

My journey started at the UNH Interoperability Laboratory, where I rapidly rose to lead the Power Over Ethernet team's software development. From component selection to PCB reviews to full firmware bring-up, I got my hands dirty with every layer of the stack.

At Wilcox Industries, I found my calling supporting those who serve. I've led firmware development on multiple SBIR programs, evolved from production support to architecting next-gen systems, and now spearhead R&D initiatives that push the boundaries of what's possible in soldier systems.

Today, I'm building the future — one unsolved problem at a time.

Senior Firmware Engineer

Wilcox Industries — Research and Development

Newington, NH June 2021 – Present

Architect, design, develop, and test embedded firmware for advanced electro-optic and headborne systems.
Serve as Lead Firmware Engineer for all new product development involving embedded firmware.
Lead the development of numerous Small Business Innovation & Research (SBIR) programs surrounding advanced Electro-Optic solutions.
Provide hardware selection guidance and system-level design input to optimize performance, power, and integration.
Act as technical lead for firmware contractors, ensuring alignment with development standards and project goals.
Onboard, mentor, and supervise new firmware engineers to ensure seamless team integration and high performance.
Interact face-to-face with customers, deriving requirements from contracts and architecting systems from the ground up.
Extensive experience with ITAR-regulated products, ensuring compliance and secure handling of sensitive technologies.
Extensive experience across multiple U.S. Government SBIR programs, ensuring compliance, technical rigor, and successful program execution.

Lead Software Engineer — Power Over Ethernet

UNH Interoperability Laboratory

Durham, NH During University

Rapidly rose to lead software engineering position on the Power Over Ethernet team.
Developed test boards for both Powered Devices and Power Sourcing Equipment, from design, development, and bring-up.
Developed all firmware on the test boards, including low-level drivers and test automation.
Assisted with component selection and PCB reviews for test board hardware.
